A few years ago, I’d reached rock bottom with my blood sugar control. I was struggling. I was getting up 5-7 times a night to finger prick. I wasn’t getting sleep. I was checking my blood sugars every hour of the day. I was avoiding treats. I was trying my best and nothing was ever good enough.
I remember breaking down one evening in utter exhaustion because I just didn’t want to do it anymore.
I was done. I was burnt out. I didn’t even want to face the thought of having to do it all again tomorrow. I was frustrated. I was exhausted. I went to my endo and we worked on it together. Things got better.
Diabetes burnout happens and it’s through no fault of our own. I’m here to remind you that it’s okay, that it doesn’t make you weak.
Burnout is a reminder that sometimes we need to focus a little more on self care than on the numbers.
It is a reminder that we are simply humans, and that mental health is just as important as the physical.
Burnout happens and when it does, be sure to reach out to loved ones. Be sure to speak to your endo about how you’re feeling. Be sure to extend yourself a little bit of extra love and kindness.

Behind the Burnout Truth Campaign
With National Diabetes Awareness Month happening, we believe it's important to continue our commitment with sharing the support as at the end of the day, we understand and acknowledge that diabetes management is a 24/7 experience.
With that in mind, we've created a #BurnoutTruth initiative to use this chance to shine a public light on an area that's often experienced in the dark by yourself.
Burnout truth is all about showing the realness of having chronic illness burnout and normalising this experience so that others out there know that it is real. By sharing different community stories, we hope that we're able to communicate that the main message is to know that these things happen because you’re a human, whether it’s with diabetes or outside of having diabetes. 😊
