What is hypoglycemia?

by IBD Medical on May 18, 2021

Hypoglycemia happens when your blood sugar falls too low with some first symptoms including shaking, a racing heart, anxiety, and hunger. When experiencing symptoms of hypoglycemia, test your blood sugar to check if it is low, if it is consume a source of fast-acting sugar such as a cup of juice or dextrose tablets.

A team of researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto put together this educational video to help people living with diabetes understand hypoglycemia and learn ways to manage it.

Hypoglycemia can be a common occurrence for people living with diabetes, therefore try to plan ahead to prevent it and carry fast-acting sugars with you to treat it if it does happen. Consult your doctor if you experience more than 2 hypoglycemic episodes in a week, to work out a treatment plan that is right for you.

I found that just one of the chews corrected my hypo in a short time. I have a tube on my desk, by my bed and in my handbag.
Thank you
