Type One Diabetes Symptoms You Need to Know

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks and destroys insulin producing cells in the pancreas. This results in the pancreas being able to produce little or no insulin. Currently there is no cure for Type 1 diabetes and treatment consists of injecting insulin via a syringe, insulin pen or pump.

Frequent Urination

When you have excess glucose building up in your blood it forces your kidneys to work overtime into order to filter and absorb the excess glucose. This in turn produces extra urine.

Excess Thirst and Dehydration

The increased output of urine caused by high glucose levels leads to dehydration. This will leave you feeling thirsty.

Increased Hunger

Type 1 diabetes results in the insulin-producing beta cells being destroyed by the immune system. Insulin is crucial in converting the food you eat into energy. This lack of energy causes an increase in hunger.

Weight Loss

Glucose that is lost through urine removes calories from the body. The excess urination leads to weight loss and the loss of water weight.

Blurred Vision

High amounts of blood glucose draw fluid from your tissues, including the lenses of your eyes. This affects your ability to focus.

Tingling Hands and Feet

Too much glucose in your blood can affect the function of your nerves. This can result in tingling and numbness in your hands and feet. Sometimes people may even experience burning pain in your arms, hands, legs and feet.

These are the six most common diabetes symptoms of diabetes. The other common symptoms are; fatigue, slow-healing sores and frequent infections, red and swollen gums, nausea and vomiting.
