In the last ten years, we’ve learned a lot about diabetes. But not just from products, technology or research. We’ve learned from the people who live with diabetes every day.
At Glucology, we’ve spent the last 10 years creating practical products to make everyday diabetes management a little easier. Along the way, we’ve heard stories about travelling, working, studying, raising families, playing sport, sleepless nights, unexpected challenges and the little wins that don’t always get talked about.
And if there’s one thing those 10 years have taught us, it’s this: Diabetes can be part of someone’s life without defining who they are.
As we celebrate 10 years of Glucology, here are 10 things we’ve learned from the diabetes community.
There is no single way to live with diabetes. Different types of diabetes bring different experiences, treatments and challenges. And even two people living with the same type of diabetes can have completely different routines. What works good for one person might not work at all for someone else.
Some people use a continuous glucose monitor, while others check their blood glucose another way. Some use an insulin pump, others use injections. Some like to have everything carefully organised, while others prefer to keep things as simple as possible.
And those routines can change, too.
That’s why we’ve always believed diabetes products should fit people, not the other way around.
Whether it’s keeping supplies organised, protecting a CGM sensor or making travel a little easier, the best solutions are often the ones that simply fit into your life.
Living with diabetes can mean making hundreds of small decisions every day.
Where did I put my supplies? | Will my sensor stay on during exercise? | How am I going to carry everything? | What if I need something while I’m travelling? | How do I fit all of this into my bag?... and a hundred of more questions.
When you’re dealing with them day after day, even one less frustration can make a real difference.
That’s something we’ve seen again and again.
Sometimes making diabetes management easier doesn’t mean changing everything. Sometimes it’s simply about making one small part of the day easier.
One of our favourite things about the diabetes community is seeing just how many different lives people are living.
People managing diabetes travel the world They study, work, raise families, play sport, go hiking, swim, perform, build businesses, start families and head off on adventures.
In fact, many of the stories we’ve encountered over the years have reminded us that diabetes management often happens alongside life, not instead of it. Of course, diabetes can mean extra planning. It can mean carrying more supplies, thinking ahead and being ready to adapt when things don’t go to plan. But life doesn’t stop. A holiday might mean packing extra supplies. A day at the beach might mean thinking about sensors and equipment. A long flight might need a little more preparation...But these things can become part of the adventure rather than a reason to miss out on it.
Think about diabetes technology today compared with 10 years ago. The difference is unbelievable.
Continuous glucose monitoring has become an important part of life for many people with diabetes. Insulin pumps and connected devices continue to evolve, while apps and digital tools have changed the way many people monitor and manage their diabetes.
Technology can offer more information, flexibility and convenience.
But this technology it doesn’t make the human side of diabetes disappear. There are still alarms going off at the worst possible time, sensors that need replacing, devices that need charging, supplies that need packing, questions that don’t have simple answers and, of course, those moments when technology decides not to cooperate.
We love seeing how far innovation has come, but 10 years has also reminded us that practical support still matters. And as technology continues to evolve, we can’t wait to see what the next 10 years will bring.
If there’s one topic that comes up time and time again, it’s travelling with diabetes. And we understand why.
Travelling means stepping away from your usual routine. There might be long flights, different climates, changes in schedule and unfamiliar places to navigate, and all of it can feel like there’s a lot more to think about.
But the community has shown us time and time again that travel, exploration and incredible adventures are possible. The key? Preparation. Knowing what supplies you’ll need, keeping important things easy to reach, thinking about how you’ll carry and store your diabetes equipment, choosing a travel case that keeps everything organised, having a cooling bag to help keep temperature-sensitive supplies protected. knowing your body and what works best for you, being prepared for unexpected delays or challenges and, perhaps most importantly, not leaving everything until the last minute.
The goal isn’t to make travel perfect. It’s to make sure diabetes doesn’t decide where you get to go.
This has probably been one of the most meaningful lessons of our 10 years. We’ve watched people with diabetes support each other in so many different ways.
Someone shares a travel tip. Someone explains how they organise their supplies. Someone opens up about a difficult day. Someone celebrates a milestone and or your milestones. Sometimes, someone simply says: “Me too.” Those two words can mean a lot.
Living with diabetes can sometimes feel isolating, especially when the people around you don’t fully understand what it involves. That’s where community can make such a difference. It reminds us that we’re not the only ones dealing with the unexpected, the frustrating, the funny and the completely ordinary moments that come with diabetes.
Being part of that community has been one of the things we’re most grateful for over the past decade. And if you’re not part of our Facebook community yet, we’d love to have you there! Come join the conversation, share your experiences, discover helpful tips and connect with others who understand.
we well know that diabetes doesn’t always follow the plan. You can prepare carefully and still get an unexpected glucose reading. You can stick to your usual routine and still have a day that feels completely different. You can do everything you intended to do and still finish the day feeling like diabetes has asked a lot of you.
That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human. There are good days. There are difficult days. There are days when diabetes barely crosses your mind, and there are days when it feels like it takes up every bit of mental space. None of those days makes you better or worse at living with diabetes.
When Glucology began, the idea was simple: create practical products that could help with some of the everyday realities of living with diabetes. And over time, we’ve realised that the best product ideas often start with a very ordinary questions: How do I carry my insulin?, How do I protect my CGM sensor?, How do I keep all my supplies together?' How can I make travelling with diabetes a little easier?, How do I keep the things I need close without carrying a huge bag?, How i keep my insulin on he right temperature on a long fly?
They’re questions people actually ask themselves every day, thats why we want to create products that make sense in real routines, real bags, real holidays and real lives real day by day.
A new device. A new routine. A new way to travel. A new product. A new piece of research. Or simply finding a strategy that works better for you.
Living with diabetes can change over time, and what works today might not be what works tomorrow.
After 10 years, we’ve learned that there’s no finish line when it comes to learning about diabetes. You learn. You adapt. You keep going.
And that’s something we believe in at Glucology, too. We’re always keeping up with the latest diabetes news, research, technology and developments so we can share useful information, ideas and resources with our community. Because staying informed doesn’t mean you need to know everything. Sometimes, it’s simply about having the right information at the right time.
Every order that leaves Glucology is going to a real person. Someone managing diabetes. Someone getting ready for a trip. Someone trying a new product. Someone looking for a little more organisation in their routine. Someone buying something for themselves. Or someone buying something for a partner, child, parent or friend.
We might see an order number on a screen, but behind that order is a person. A routine. A family. A story.
And over the past 10 years, we’ve been incredibly lucky to become a small part of so many of those stories.
After 10 years, we’ve learned that diabetes is never just about numbers, devices or routines. It’s about people, their everyday lives, the challenges they face and the moments they celebrate.
We’re incredibly grateful to have been part of so many journeys over the years, and we know there is still so much to learn, discover and improve.
As diabetes, technology and everyday life continue to evolve, we’ll keep listening, learning and looking for new ways to make everyday life a little easier.
Thank you for being part of our first 10 years. We can’t wait to see what the next 10 bring.
